The 666 omen

For centuries the Mark of the Beast has put fear in the minds of the people. There are different characteristics that distinguish this beast - his mark (of authority) his name and the number of his name (666) even though according to some scholars there has been a misinterpretation of the number and that it should be 616 says Team Foray

The final book of the New Testament is Revelation, and for centuries theologians have pondered its highly symbolic, prophetic language. Revelation tells of impending Armageddon, an end of all time, when a great war will be fought between good and evil, and God will triumph. In Revelation, "the beast," also called the Antichrist, personifies evil.

Revelation, Chapter 13 speaks of the beast and how to identify his followers. According to verses 16 and 17, they will have the mark or the name or number of the beast on their right hands or foreheads. Verse 18 introduces the number 666 itself.

It's unclear why the specific number 666 is the number of the beast. But one theory is that number 6 is the number of man because in the Bible, God created man on the sixth day. Elsewhere in the Bible, Satan is described as being "man-centred" (as opposed to God-centred). Thus the devil's number would be a twist on man's number. This is just one theory, and the number 666 has generated plenty of debate.

The 666 phenomenon is based on a disputed passage some biblical scholars claim there was a mistranslation and the number should really be 616. Actually, according to possibly the oldest copy of Revelation ever found in an ancient Egyptian landfill/trash heap, the number is clearly stated to be 616 and not 666. For whatever reason, students of the Quran also believe 666 to be a holy number, related to the Quran itself.

In Christian circles the Bible is known as the source of truth and the instruction book for right-living, as it is proclaimed to be the inspired Word of God. In Satan's circles the Bible is referred to by his troops as Satan's War Book, and that is precisely what Satan has done - and the Mark of the Beast is no exception. For centuries people have had great apprehension and even fear concerning the mystical number 666 which, according to Biblical record, is the Mark of the Beast.

In spite of the resistance in the Christian arena to the Mark of the Beast being placed on a person, most people have already accepted such a mark. United States law presently requires that everyone be assigned a social security number at birth. That number is used widely for tracking and identification purposes by the system. The problem of social security cards and even numbers being lost or stolen has given rise to using invisible tattoos as a more convenient way of numbering people. It is interesting to note that now each ID includes the number 666 along with the social security number.

The Christian Cult Churches teach the Satanic Revelation prophecy, that by taking the mark of the beast you are condemning yourself to Hell and eternal destruction. Satan's Mark of the Beast number is just another way for Satan to panic the people. No Satan or cult or any number or any beast can condemn anyone to Hell.

The Bible indicates that 6 is the number of man and/or Satan(666). Using the English alphabet and the Babylonian numbering system (system numbering by six) and assigning man's number "6" to the first letter "A" of man's alphabet, a system has been constructed by giving each succeeding letter an increasing value of six.

666 also appears on the forehead of the Pope's Babylonian hat band as testimony that he, indeed, is the present Emperor of Rome. This places the Pope into the direct line from Julius Caesar, who by the way, was a Pope prior to the birth of Jesus - from 100 BC to 44 BC.

In the Bible it was common to use the number seven to represent spiritual perfection, or spiritual completeness.

Numbers have been used to imply certain characteristics throughout history. Even today, they are used in the same way as it was done by writers of the Bible. For example, a person could say "you are number one", and aside form the obvious numerical value or a position as first in order, there is an added connotation, which I can not repeat here, kids and all... Similarly, you could say "she is a 10", signifying physical perfection, as it was also used by the Bible writers to imply physical perfection or completeness.

So how does this apply to the number of the beast? If one were to say "she is a 9", it would be understood that someone approaches physical perfection, but does not attain it. Not bad in a physical sense, but in a spiritual sense, this would mean falling short of the mark, or sinning. Thus, six means spiritual imperfection, or sin. The repetition of the number means this imperfection is systemic, it is more than simple sin. It is often used as the symbolic number of imperfection of humankind (two arms, two legs, one head, one body).

It is the willful sin born of rebellion against God, the desire to do what is wrong knowing that it is wrong, and the hate for things that are good. It is complete and total imperfection, in every aspect, and the desire to lead others into this rebellion.

Since number 6 in the Bible is the number of imperfection, so, the Antichrist would have the triple total imperfection, in his religious, political and social dimensions, symbolising the climax of man's failure and wickedness.

No explanation of this number is given, and there has been much speculation throughout history about it.

However, one theory is that man, like God is a trinity. God is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Man is body, soul and spirit. Seven is the number in the Bible that corresponds to perfection and purity. Six falls short of Seven. Man was created on the sixth day, in Genesis.

Man always fall short of God's perfection and glory. "666 is the number of man", Fall short in spirit. Fall short in body. Fall short in the soul or 6th day body, 6th day spirit, and 6th day soul=666.

The mark of the Beast also connotes a system of numbers in which the assigned values carry meanings which influence the way people think. A majority of the Americans have conclude that if the last 6/6/06 (in 1906) failed to end in apocalypse, they might survive this one, too.

So certain is the Victorian branch of the Australian Sceptics that there is no ominous link with the devil's number, they requested 666 in their telephone number.

* While most versions of the revelation give 666 as the "number of the beast", a fragment from the oldest surviving copy of the New Testament, dating to the third century, says 616 is the telltale mark.

* Came into popular knowledge and culture with the 1976 horror classic The Omen, which spawned three sequels and a remake of the original.

* The number 666 has been found by believers hidden in such diverse places as computer bar codes and Bill Gates' name.

* Proctor & Gamble, the largest consumer product manufacturer in the US, had to fight rumours of connections with the Church of Satan, after believers found 666 in the company's famous "Man in the Moon" logo.

* The world's most expensive phone number was auctioned for charity in Qatar. The number, 666 6666, sold for 10m Qatari riyals or £1.5m.

Some people obviously don't believe in coincidence. Frankly I don't care who has 666 where. I'm not a Christian and therefore do not believe in either Satan or the Anti-Christ. I'm sure though that most of it is coincidence.
