Conversion from secure books?

Postby bookluvr » Sat Jun 03, 2006 10:20 pm

Hi,

Is there anyway to convert secure ereader/mobipocket/adobe ebooks to txt/html or any of the non-secure format?

For MS Lit with drm5, is it possible for it to be converted to non-secure with ConvertLit?

Thanks in advance.

As far as I know, Ereader cannot be converted. Mobipocket books I do not know. Adobe PDF's - as long as it is your copy, then it is possible to remove the security settings and extract txt from it.

I've tried converting a protected LIT book (don't know if it has DRM5--what are DRMs1-4?) and ConvertLIT couldn't open it.

Was it a .lit file that you purchased yourself? If not, then I think but I'm not certain, that it can only be converted if you have a copy of the key file (keys.txt) from the original purchaser.

I've just bought a palm pda (don't ask why), and I've thought about purchasing some ebooks i like to read, then share it in an unsecure format. Looks like I'm out of luck. PDF format looks bad on my palm and MS lit won't work, so I won't buy either of these formats. I'm more or less stuck with ereader/mobireader formats, which, as zombie has pointed out, aren't crackable (yet).

Any idea while we're on this topic if audio book odm files can be converted to another format? My local library has audio books on download but only in that format and they have limitations on them. I'd love to be able to actually get some decent use out of them.

I haven't tried an audio book before, but to get around protected music files, one method is to record in real time with a program like Total Recorder - a bit time consuming for a book.

For adobe files, you can use the program, called " Advanced PDF Password Recovery" to decrypt protected Adobe Acrobat PDF files.
