IRC and New Book Lists?? and HowTo's?

Postby minbiza » Sat Mar 18, 2006 5:01 am

Just wondering... if we could have a section for IRC and Books.
Maybe have p2p also, or combine them.. whatever. :)

Like the New Book Lists once or twice a week.

Some How To's, books, tutorials on IRC.

some eg...
How to find books on irc.
How to make or get the new books list.
What to do once u get on irc, online. :?
[really serial about this! heh ]

and so on. :)

Ah, one of my favourite subjects :) damn good idea minbiza

well lets start it off then 8)

Well, 1st thing you have to do to get books from IRC is get a client like Mirc
Code: Select all
http://www.mirc.com/
this is the only one worth getting in my opinion and dont forget to read the FAQ and intro sections

a short tutorial (basic commands)

@find : @find filename
@username : @gojukai or @goju-new will get you my full list and my newest downloads list

when you request a book you do it in this format:
!gojukai A. A. Attanasio - In Other Worlds (v3.0) [rtf].rar
just a simple copy and paste from the list to the msg bar at the bottom
of the msg window :)

@username-que : will tell you the position your request is situated
in the queue
!help : duh!

well thats your basic leecher commands

ok here are my full and new list to start it off

Code: Select all
http://20-248-c.onlinestoragesolution.com/c-t-p/Hazzard/gojukai.VPS.2006-03-14-(1623).rar

Code: Select all
http://20-248-c.onlinestoragesolution.com/c-t-p/Hazzard/goju-new.VPS.2006-03-14-(1610).rar

ps : undernet/#bookz or #ebooks is the place to be :D

no need to reinvent the wheel, they already have their own faq:

http://ebooksdrop.com

just make sure you install the filter, it really is needed

Thanks for the link rueyew.

And Hazzard- thank you for the short leech tut and
the two lists! heh :D

The faq & guides at
Code: Select all
http://ebooksdrop.com

come up short.. in that they assume to much of the newbie.
Most of all the tutorials I've seen are that way. :(

The best one imho is prankster's at andrnet.
Best cus it worked 4 me.
"Prankster’s Step by step guide to Mirc setup" ..>
Code: Select all
http://prankster.freeserverhost.com/public_html/mirctutorial.html

If ur really green (Me) this tut gets u over the hump. Truly! :)
This is about installing mirc. Has lot's of "pic's".
The only bad thing is I could'nt save it to use off line.
Only some of the pic's would be saved.

Well- getting online and going somewhere are two different mules! heh..

How to get to the "right" channel or network :!: Then how to get to
the book sites. That is not so easy. :? heh

Did find out that u needed "ping" enabled for undernet.
But do u need it for both ways? And which ones?

Anyway.. seems to me this should be easy.. but it's not.

Then there are the ad's.. so I installed Xdcc Klipper, but now
need to uninstall it so I can upgrade to the lastest version.
Here again some more pain in the butt. :P
It don't want to. heh heh.. grrrr. :x

So many tiny little problems. heh

There's more.. but should hold u (Me) for now. :P me

cya cheers M

foi ..who-where is that? [ foi.03-18-2006.zip ]

@rueyew noticed all those "cheezeee" pic's of the local peepz.
My my.. outragous, heh heh.
Did not see the "Elf's or MollyKay's pics? Maybe too urrrgly!

Holy hades! I just spent the last few days on irc #ebooks and I don't think I will ever be able to read everything I like. I appreciate so much what this site offers and how people share what info they have and how rather than treating the information as a private little goldmine you encourage others to seek and find. Thanks so much. I'll be posting a few collections of some of my faves here for those unable to navigate their way through irc. Once again thanks to all.

I'd post today but I'm sure each upload would start with @afaiktoit....lol.

I'm new to IRC and I downloaded mirc and tried to navigate to the #bookz channel. No luck, I had no clue what I was doing. So I started reading the book about irc mentioned on this forum and I have a question. What is the best way to protect your computer from hackers and trojans, etc. while on IRC? what's the best firewall software or what is the minimum you have to have to protect yourself and your harddrive?
Thanks.

I use ZoneAlarm as my firewall. It's free and very highly recommended. Also make sure your antivirus software is updated and running. It's also safe to have TWO not one anti-spyware/malware running (one anti-spyware proram will not catch all the critters). Don't be alarmed. These are not things you need for running IRC. These are things you should have to keep your PC healthy.

For IRC, I guess the best you can do to protect yourself from viruses and trojans is to monitor what you're downloading. Run your antivirus on the folder where you save your downloads.
I've received some DCC-sends from people and some are blatant with a virus file name, others are zipped. The practice is, if you don't know or sure of what it is, cancel the transfer.

Litia gave me this helpful link when I decided to try out IRC,
Code: Select all
http://www.ak3d.net/help.htm

on how IRC works.
Good luck!

IRC and mirc

Postby ln1007 » Mon Oct 01, 2007 8:12 pm

Here is a book on IRC basics. It really helped me when I first started using mirc. Another great source for romance books is All_Romance on #ebookz on undernet and vadi at the same place.

I doubled the size of my library the first week I finally learned how to use mirc. Now I check the new book lists of certain sharers every day or so, just to keep up.

yes, vadi and majecki are actually the only 2 to serve 'NEW' stuff. they get it before everybody else leeches it. both excellent sources.
